What is ergonomics?

Ergonomics is a science that encompasses the study of the worker, the job, and the work environment with the goal of fitting the job to the worker.

Why does your company need ergonomics?

- Can decrease your Workers’ Compensation costs directly affecting your company’s bottom line, contribute to the overall health and well being of workers with a goal to eliminate work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), and maintain compliance with Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act. This section of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, otherwise known as the General Duty Clause, states in part that employers will provide employees with a workplace that is "free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm..."

- Can identify and address risk factors for repetitive motion injury, identify tasks and/or tools that can allow a person with an WMSD or non-occupational disability to remain at work or return to work earlier than expected through ergonomic assessment of the work place and work processes.

- Aids in compliance with the recently revised Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design (2010 Standards). Ergonomic consulting services can help identify opportunities and accommodations that will allow people with disabilities to be productive in your workplace. Reference: http://www.ada.gov

- Includes ergonomic assessments of the workplace/workstation, work flow, tasks and tools, provides suggestions for interventions or accommodations that will improve how the job is done, thereby improving productivity and worker health. Healthy employees translate to a more stable work force with less absenteeism.
